Captain’s Report 26.09.26

What a lovely day of croquet and footy fever we had yesterday, so lucky compared to today’s weather!

Firstly, my thanks to Robin Boyle who directed the High-Low Pairs competition from the round robins last Monday and Tuesday (again a huge contrast in weather conditions), and the finals yesterday.

Congratulations to the winners Ray Davis and his partner John Egan, who defeated Gerard Connors and Chris D’Arcy on the 11th hoop.

Tony Brand and Jenny Peters were narrowly defeated by Dianne Barrett and partner Roy Seager on the 13th hoop.

Our Social Coordinator, Robin Lacey organised and provided a wonderful spread of morning tea and then party pies and sausage rolls just prior to the finals beginning at 12.30pm. It was lovely to see so many members stay on and watch the games.

The AFL public holiday could perhaps become a firm fixture on our calendar each year.

The South East Metro competition kicked off last Monday, with both Level 1 and 2 teams playing Mornington at Sandringham.

Unfortunately, both teams lost their matches, but some good wins and close games were played, against very good opposition.

This Monday, 28th September, Level 1 play Kew at Kew, and Level 2 play Kew at Sandringham. So good luck to all players.

The Advantage Team competition kicks off on Thursday, with Sharks playing at Lilydale, and Dolphins playing Mornington at home. All games start at 10.30am.

Last weekend, Ian Lacey and Jan Proudley played in the Frankston Doubles Handicap Tournament over two days, and finished runners-up, a good result highlighted by Ian reducing his handicap to 4. Congratulations Ian.

Tony Brand and Meg Thorley also competed.

The next Club tournament will be the Club Championships, which will be held in November, most probably the week beginning 23rd November, and most likely over the Tuesday and Wednesday. So, for those keen to enter, try and keep those days free!

The last SE Metro Advantage Game is on 26th November, with our own teams the Sharks versus the Dolphins which will be an interesting battle!

Lots of croquet coming up before Christmas!

Happy Hooping!

Rose Inglis
