High-Low Doubles Competition - Week beginning 14th September
Published Sun 23 Aug 2026
Dear Members,
A message from Rose Inglis, Club Captain:
-------------------------------------------------------------
Robin Boyle, Ray Davis and I plan to run an in-house High-Low doubles competition in the week beginning 14 September. Round robin sessions will be held on the Monday morning and the Tuesday afternoon, with the finals to be held on the Saturday.
First, note that we are trialling a new registration system through our website, as explained below.
The competition is non-handicap and open to all members, from beginners to our most experienced, and whether you play inter-club competition or not. All pairings will be announced on the day at the start of your round-robin session. New club members are strongly encouraged to participate – you don’t need to have a handicap.
As we can take 24 competitors in each session, we have the potential for up to 48 participants. Our biggest event to date had 40 participants and we hope to beat that number. All club members should consider participating. If you are a new member and worrying that you aren’t good enough, please don’t, as you will be paired with an experienced player, providing you with an invaluable opportunity to improve.
Indicate your expression of interest ASAP but even if you leave it a bit late there is still likely to be room. We will take entries up to 5 pm on Thursday 10 September.
If you expect to be away on the day of the finals, still enter for the round robins and we will cope with re-pairing your partner should you make the finals.
You will play three round-robin games which will be first to seven, as per normal club day play. (If you think you can only manage one or two games, please let Robin know via email.)
Note the proviso that we may need to move the times/dates or make other variations should unacceptable weather intervene.
Details of the competition are:
- Round-robin Session One: Planned for Monday 14 September. Arrive 9.00 am for 9.15 start. Finish approx. 12.30 pm.
- Round-robin Session Two: Planned for Tuesday 15 September. Arrive 1.00 pm for 1.15 start. Finish approx. 4.30 pm.
- When you register online, you will see three options: AM only, PM only or EITHER. Only register in one of these.
- If you can play either, that helps in allocating pairs and courts.
- Finals to be held at approximately 1.00 pm Saturday 19th.
- Pairs to be allocated on a high-low basis to even out competitiveness.
- Three courts to be made available at each session, setting the maximum number of participants per session at 24 and twelve pairs.
- The winners of each round-robin group will play off in the finals.
- There will be a prize for the overall winning pair and their names will be recorded on the plaque in the club room.
We will provide more details to participants soon after entries close.
This will be a serious but fun event, just like the previous High-Low doubles competitions.
Robin Boyle is the tournament manager, and he is trialling the club’s website as a means of registration. You will need to log in, as that is the only way to ensure only members can enter. (If you still can’t log in, please let Robin know and he will reset your password.)
To enter:
- Go to sandycroquet.org.au
- To see the registration options, ensure you are logged in (at the top right/or top row of the menu)
- Click the Calendar link
- Find the High-Low events – there are three options. Click on the name of the event.
- If you can play either the AM or the PM session, choose that option
- Otherwise register in the AM only session or the PM only session
- Click the Register button
- In the next screen make your selections as needed and submit
- (If you have extra information or requests pass it onto Robin in a separate email)
For any further queries, please contact Robin Boyle by email: robin@cicadabay.com or mobile: 0474 246 797 or at the club.
Robin, Ray and I are happy to field any questions about the competition.
